Petry-Kuhne wanted to upgrade their seven year old network.
Their existing configuration was a Dell System 310 with 16MB RAM, two 300MB ESDI hard
drives, running Novell NetWare v3.12.While this network still worked adequately, they
were concerned that they might soon have a hardware failure. Additionally, they wanted to
move to more current "state-of-the-art" hardware and network operating system
that would also provide for a local intranet as well as permit them centralized access to
the Internet.
Originally, this network used Arcnet, but this was upgraded to 10BaseT (with category 5
100mbs capable wiring) two years ago. Also, they had just recently completed an upgrade
that resulted in all of their client workstations running Microsoft Windows 95.
Our recommendations included
Microsoft Windows NT (network operating system)
Dell PowerEdge 2300 (file server)
Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server software
This configuration provides for several other features that they would benefit from
such as Microsoft Exchange Server, SQL Server, Proxy Server, Internet Information Server,
and more.
The long-term business relationship between The Petry-Kuhne Company and PTLC made us a
partner in their strategic planning process for their information systems and its future
growth.
